Description
The Spirit of Mt Gillen Helicopter flight is a fantastic 20 minute race around the highlights of Alice Springs. Featuring the towering Mt Gillen, you'll also get views over the Alice Springs CBD, Anzac Hill, Macdonnell Ranges and Simpsons Gap. And that's just the start of it!
Commencing your flight, you will set off in your helicopter from the Crowne Plaza Alice Springs Lasseters. As you take off, you'll trail along the Todd river, heading towards the Alice Springs Historical Reserve. Flying over Anzac Hill, you'll get incredible over-arching views of Alice Springs.
As the chopper moves out of Alice Springs and past Anzac Hill, you'll notice a shift in the scenery as you head into the Stuart. Ahead, you can see the telegraph station nestled within the Geological Reserve.
When you pass the telegraph station, your pilot will via westward where your path is directed toward the West Macdonnell Ranges. The sights from here are particularly special. The vastness of the ranges is the true highlight of this heli-tour.
As you dive into the Ranges, you'll get extensive views along the Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park. The spectacles on this section of the trip are iconic to Australia.
On the return to Alice Springs, the route will hover over the Simpsons Gap - where the Larapinta Trail tours follow. The gap bound by 2 rocky faces makes for excellent viewing which forefronts Mt Gillen and the CBD.
Mt Gillen is the final highlight before touching down back down at Alice Springs.
For a 20 minute scenic flight, the Spirit of Mt Gillen Heliopter Flight is an action-packed way to spend the day. The sights are saturated in Aboriginal history and the experience is exhilarating.
